Fares & Passes

NEW

You can now purchase tickets from the convenience of your own phone or mobile device!

As of June 2018, you can use RIPTA’s new Flash Pass Mobile App* Available for both Android and iOS devices, the app lets you purchase select tickets or passes from your device and then activate the one you’d like to use before you board.  When you have an active ticket on your screen, just show the driver and they will ask you to tap your phone screen so they can verify its validity by the changing colors and the scrolling RIPTA logo.

The Flash Pass is easy to use and allows you to purchase tickets or passes before you board…and you can store tickets in the app for future use.  No more digging around for cash!  Go to the App Store or Android Play Store, download our new app, and get ready to ride.

*Please note the app is still in beta version and RIPTA continues to monitor its performance.  If you’d like to send feedback, please email: marketing@RIPTA.com.

Rhode Island Public Transit Authority Refund/Exchange Policy

TRANSFER POLICY

Effective March 1, 2016, transfers will include unlimited travel within the system for two hours -- as opposed to old policy which required switching to another route or not using the transfers for a return trip.

Previously purchased RIPTIKs and 15 Ride Passes will continue to be accepted on fixed-route vehicles until further notice.

RIPTA offers a special Reduced Fare Bus Pass Program that allows qualifying low-income seniors (age 65 or over) and low-income persons with disabilities to travel free as of July 1, 2017.  Participants in this no fare program are issued a “Valid All Day” photo identification card that they use to board the bus.  For more information on how to apply for this program, please click here.

RIPTA also complies with federal transit guidelines and offers half-fare boarding to seniors and persons with disabilities, regardless of income, during OFF PEAK hours.  Passengers enrolled in this program are issued “Valid Off Peak” photo identification cards.  These passengers pay full fare during RIPTA peak service hours (7am-9am and 3pm-6pm) on weekdays. They can also use a Medicare Card to board.
